Learning Objectives

After completion of this practical course, the students will be able to:

1. Describe basic concepts of data and run common open source RS/GIS software
2. Develop skills in analytical methods and software of satellite remote sensing and GIS as applied to environmental systems
3. Process optical satellite images
4. Apply RS/GIS data for environmental system analysis, including change detection, hazard and vulnerability assessment, biodiversity and habitat assessment, and environmental resource mapping

Unit 3: Application of RS and GIS in Environmental Studies (15 hrs)

3.4 Soil moisture estimation

3.5 Terrain analysis and watershed characterization

3.6 Forest and biodiversity

3.7 Water resources
