PhD Successfully Defended at the Central Department of Environmental Science

The Central Department of Environmental Science (CDES), Institute of Science and Technology (IoST), Tribhuvan University, is pleased to announce the successful PhD defense of Mr. Ashok Baniya.

Mr. Baniya defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Impact of Hydropower Dams on Indicator Aquatic Species in the Trishuli and Marsyangdi Rivers of Nepal.” The research contributes valuable scientific insights into the ecological impacts of hydropower development on freshwater ecosystems in Nepal, with particular emphasis on indicator aquatic species.

The PhD research was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Chhatra Mani Sharma, Central Department of Environmental Science, IoST, Tribhuvan University.

The doctoral examination committee included esteemed external examiners:

• Prof. Dr. Bed Mani Dahal, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University
• Prof. Dr. Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary, Geophysics Department, Kurukshetra University, India
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dean Jacobsen, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The PhD defense program was chaired by the Dean of IoST, Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal, and was facilitated by Dr. Komal Raj Rijal, Assistant Dean, IoST. The examination proceedings were conducted by Prof. Dr. Udhab Raj Khadka, Head of the Central Department of Environmental Science.
